Turtle Rattle

Things that you need;

  • Stick 3/4 inch thick, 8-10 inches long, Pruners & knife help
  • Leather; cut into strips 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, enough to cover stick by twisting.
  • Glow in the dark paint & brush
  • Beads or peas for inside rattle
  • Egg shaped decoration balls (clear)
  • Feathers; Crow beads to decorate
  • Hot glue gun & glue

Paint inside of decoration balls with glow in the dark paint;  let dry overnight (microwave helps if you're in a hurry)

Remove bark from sticks, make a hole in the top of the stick big enough so the ball tip fits securely;  fill inside of the ball with beads or peas;  close & glue securely;  glue the ball to the hole in the stick & let dry.  Using the strips of leather, glue at the neck of the rattle; twist to the bottom & glue.

Now you are ready to decorate, using the child's imagination; let them decide the colour of the bead, feathers;  attach with leather & glue;  attach mini eyes and they are finished.

Find a dark place to show them that they glow in the dark.  We had fun doing this with our group and they got very excited once they saw them in the dark.

You may even want to go on a Nature hike a week before and collect sticks and other items for winter crafts.
