Sidestream Smoke What is It?Smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and smoke that is being exhaled by the smoker. Sidestream smoke may be responsible for 30% of all lung cancer deaths. It may cause:
- Burning of the eyes
- Breathing difficulties
- General discomfort
- Headaches
- Sore throat
- Increase in blood cholesterol level
- Nausea
- Allergic reactions
- Nasal congestion
- Coughing
- Dizziness
- Heart disease or heart attack
Children are affected the most. Children with smoking parents have
- More illnesses
- More coughing and wheezing
- Respiratory infections and asthma
- Children also have a greater chance of developing cancer later in life and a greater chance of becoming smokers themselves.
