The Bmikwe endso-giizhgak program “Making Tracks Everyday” (Ojibwa) was created to promote healthy nutrition and physical activity in aboriginal communities. Bmikwe endso-giizhgak is a physical activity program that will be offered to families who participate in the off reserve Aboriginal CAPC and CPNP locations across Ontario. In the summer we will have a ” walking with strollers program “, and in the winter ” walking with snowshoes program” A limited number of strollers and snowshoes will be provided to Off- reserve Aboriginal CAPC and CPNP projects who have registered participants. Prizes will be awarded to groups that walk the most kilometers and as incentives. Our goal will be to walk across Canada. All kilometers will be accumulated and recorded including the kilometers made by the children in strollers and tikanagans.

A program volunteer will be required in each community to provide support and to keep track of the kilometers traveled by our families, facilitate registration and guide the walks. (This person can be a worker, program participant or volunteer).

All types’ of daily physical activity is proven to lower the risks of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, obesity and diabetes.

A program start up kit will be distributed to participating Off-reserve Aboriginal CAPC and CPNP projects that will include calendars, tracking sheets, walk schedule sheets, information on walking, snowshoeing and recruiting volunteers. Registration will be required for the program. Sign up sheets may be posted at sites.
